Firstly, let me introduce myself. I am Carole and I am one of the founders of BluWave Community Services CIC trading as BluWave Community Transport. We are a not for profit Community Interest Company.
Bluwave runs a Community Transport service for Redditch, Bromsgrove, and surrounding areas. Our volunteer drivers take clients to and from various places such as hospitals, doctors, dental practices, other medical appointments and to socially prescribed activities (such as Strength & Balance classes, specialised Dementia Classes etc). The service is for people who are unable to access public transport due to illness, mobility, or, through lack of accessible public transport.
Our drivers collect the clients from their homes, making sure they have any necessary paperwork with them and take them to their required destination, wait for them, and take them home, making sure they are home safely.
We charge a small admin fee and a rate per mile and drivers can claim back their mileage expense currently 0.55p per mile. There is free parking at the four Worcestershire hospitals for passengers with a blue badge and any other parking is paid by our clients, which we advise them of when booking.
Our drivers find the experience rewarding, helping others. I am a back-up driver myself and I can second that, as we can be the only social connections a client has all week.
